Hastings, NE – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9am Saturday through 6pm Sunday as a complex winter storm is set to impact central Nebraska, bringing freezing drizzle, snow and high winds.
Areas including Grand Island, Kearny, York and Lexington should expect freezing drizzle Saturday morning, followed by accumulating snow and icy winds by Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service. Total snow accumulations are estimated at 3 to 5 inches, with snow totals up to one-tenth of an inch thick. Gusts up to 30 mph can cause near blizzard conditions and visibility can drop to half a mile during heavy snowfall.
Slippery road conditions and icy surfaces are expected as temperatures drop late Sunday night. Wind chills are expected to reach -10 to -20 degrees by Monday morning.
The storm will move from north-west to south-east on Sunday evening, but its impact will last till Monday. Residents are advised to monitor updates, drive with caution and be prepared for hazardous conditions.
