KANSAS CITY, MO – The Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) is preparing for a significant winter storm that is expected to hit the Kansas City metro area this week. Beginning Thursday afternoon, troopers will begin towing abandoned vehicles from highways and interstates to aid in snow removal efforts.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, abandoned vehicles block roadways and hinder the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT)’s ability to clear snow effectively. Motorists whose vehicles have been towed can dial *47 to confirm the location of their vehicle. Vehicle owners will be billed for towing costs.
Residents are urged to plan ahead to ensure their vehicles are not stranded on major thoroughfares. KHP and KDOT officials emphasize that early preparation will speed up snow removal and improve safety during the storm.
Forecasts predict challenging travel conditions across the region, with the potential for heavy snowfall and icy roads. Officials recommend staying off the roads unless travel is essential.
