TRACKING WINTER WEATHER: We are getting more details about the winter weather threats this weekend.
HERE IS WHAT WE KNOW:
- We will initially start with freezing rain and snow Sunday morning before transitioning to rain during the afternoon. Areas, especially along and north of the Western Kentucky Parkway will continue to see more freezing rain during the afternoon as temperatures remain below freezing.
- The more significant icing is going to be along and north of a line from Madisonville to Leitchfield and Campbellsville. For areas further south, roads will certainly be slick, especially during the morning and into the early afternoon.
- Temperatures do warm up and stay above freezing later in the afternoon and into the night. That means rain will be the main precipitation type.
- As it turns colder Monday morning, some snow and light freezing rain is possible before coming to an end.
- There will be travel impacts and possibly some power outages, especially on Sunday morning and afternoon.
- After the winter weather departs, highs will likely stay below freezing for a few days. Low temperatures will dip into the teens.
