TULSA, OK – A powerful cold front is set to hit Oklahoma on Sunday, bringing high winds, snow and dropping temperatures. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected, making driving dangerous, especially on I-44 and other major thoroughfares.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will arrive Sunday afternoon, with the potential for light snowfall across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. While accumulations are forecast to be less than an inch, blowing snow and icy conditions could create slick spots on elevated routes. Travelers are urged to secure loose outdoor items and use caution, especially with high-profile vehicles sensitive to wind.
Sunday night, temperatures are expected to drop rapidly, with wind chills dropping into the single digits. This bitter cold will continue into Monday morning, creating dangerous conditions for anyone exposed to the elements. Residents should dress in layers and limit time outside.
Looking ahead, the high on Monday will be just 28°F, with conditions remaining cloudy due to strong northwest winds. Monday night’s low will drop to 14°F before conditions stabilize midweek, with temperatures in the 30s on Wednesday under sunny skies.
Drivers are advised to monitor local updates and delay travel if conditions worsen. Plan in advance to avoid any unnecessary risks as temperatures are dropping and snowfall is reducing visibility.
