Chicago, IL – Lake effect snow and freezing temperatures are expected across the Chicago area and northwest Indiana by 7 pm Monday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect, warning of hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), residents should expect low visibility, slippery roads and travel delays. Snowfall will vary over short distances, with the heaviest snowfall possible near Lake Michigan. The temperature will range from a maximum of 26 degrees to a minimum of 10 degrees, with wind chill down to -5.
The advisory covers Lake and Cook counties in Illinois and Benton County in Indiana. Travelers should be prepared for impacts during both morning and evening travel. The NWS recommends going slow, increasing distance and allowing extra time for travel.
Snowfall and icy conditions are expected to subside by late Monday night, but cold temperatures will persist through Tuesday and beyond. Highs are forecast to remain in the low 20s through midweek.
