AMARILLO, TX – Residents can expect unseasonably mild temperatures this weekend, with sunny skies on Saturday and highs rising into the mid 60s. These warmer than average conditions provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities before cooler weather returns next week.
Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 66, according to the National Weather Service, with light southwest winds of 10 to 15 mph. The temperature will drop to around 27 degrees overnight, the feeling of cold will increase further due to cold winds. Sunday will be sunny but a little cooler, with a high of 55 and north-northwest winds 15 to 20 mph.
Early next week, temperatures will drop on Monday due to cold winds, with the maximum temperature reaching near 43 and the minimum reaching 23 degrees at night. Tuesday will feel even colder, with highs in the mid 30s.
Travelers on I-40 and surrounding roadways should take advantage of clear, dry conditions over the weekend, as precipitation is not expected. Bundle up in the morning, however, as wind chill values can feel below zero.
Looking ahead, temperatures will slowly rise through the middle of the week, with Wednesday and Thursday mostly sunny with highs near 40. Residents should be prepared for fluctuating conditions and keep an eye on updated forecasts for potential weather changes.
