Columbiana County, OH – A snowfall warning has been issued for areas near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border, including Columbiana, Mercer and Lawrence counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) reports heavy snowfall and strong winds, which could cause whiteout conditions and make travel dangerous.
The warning, issued at 12:46 a.m. Friday, remains in effect until 1:30 p.m. The storm is moving southeast at 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Affected areas include New Castle, Sharon, Hermitage and Salem. Visibility is expected to reduce suddenly and roads may become icy and dangerous.
Motorists are strongly advised to reduce speed, turn on headlights and be prepared for rapid changes in visibility. People in affected areas should avoid non-essential travel, as whiteout conditions can lead to accidents within minutes.
This storm signals the beginning of a cold weekend. Temperatures will drop to 20 degrees tonight, with scattered snowfall likely through Saturday morning. The five-day forecast suggests more snowfall early next week, with temperatures also expected to remain below average.
Residents along the Ohio-Pennsylvania border should stay informed about local news and weather updates to stay informed about evolving conditions. Keep emergency kits in vehicles and delay travel until conditions improve.
