Logansport, IN – A report of a stabbing early Tuesday turned into a fatal officer-involved shooting in Cass County.
Officers responded to a report of a vehicle accident at approximately 12:21 a.m., but instead found two men suffering from stab wounds. According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Bryce Hamilton encountered the suspect, identified as Christopher S., 35, of Logansport. Evans.
Evans, armed with two knives, ignored orders and charged at the deputy. Despite attempts to de-escalate, Deputy Hamilton discharged his weapon, striking Evans. Emergency responders pronounced Evans dead at the scene.
Deputy Hamilton, a 3.5-year veteran of the force, was placed on administrative leave pending a review. The incident occurred near the Cass-Carroll County line and involved multiple agencies, including the Carroll County Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecutor Nicholas McClelland reviewed the body camera footage and deemed Deputy Hamilton’s actions justified. No deputies were injured during the incident.
The stabbing victims were taken to local hospitals; Their conditions remain unknown. Officials have not released further details.
