BINGHAMTON, NY – Lake effect snow is set to bring heavy accumulations and dangerous travel conditions to Central New York this weekend. Residents in Oneida, Onondaga and Madison counties should prepare for snowfall totals of up to 30 inches by Sunday. The heaviest layers of snow are currently located in Oneida County and are expected to remain stationary for most of Friday before moving south along the New York Thruway overnight.

The lake effect snow is expected to shift back north on Saturday afternoon, affecting major travel routes including the NY Thruway corridor. Travelers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and use extreme caution on snow-covered roads.
Saturday’s high will reach 26°F, dropping to the 20s at night. By Sunday, snow showers will taper off by the afternoon, but temperatures will remain cold with a high of 28°F and gusts up to 20 mph. Those planning outdoor activities this weekend should be prepared and be mindful of the weather.
