FLAGSTAFF, AZ – Residents of Northern Arizona can look forward to a dazzling astronomical event as the Quadrantids meteor shower reaches its peak tonight, promising up to 120 meteors per hour. Ideal viewing conditions are expected with mostly clear skies and minimal light interference.
According to the National Weather Service, the best time to catch the Quadrantids will be from 10 p.m. tonight through 4 a.m. Saturday. The rising crescent moon will darken the sky, increasing visibility. With temperatures dropping to 23°F at night, residents are advised to bundle up and bring blankets or sleeping bags for extended sky viewing.
The Quadrantids are known for their bright, colorful fireballs, which last longer than normal meteors. For the best view, go to an area away from city lights, such as the outskirts of Flagstaff, and lie down facing northeast.
Saturday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 48°F, offering a pleasant day after the meteor shower. The weekend will be clear, Sunday will be partly cloudy with a low around 20. There may be a slight chance of snowfall on Tuesday.
Don’t miss this annual astronomical event. Dress warmly, find a comfortable spot and prepare to enjoy one of the best meteor showers of the year.
