WPBN: Unexpectedly, a suspect wanted in connection with a double killing in California was taken into custody during a routine civil traffic check in Yuma that involved a bike. Approximately 2:25 p.m. on Monday was the time when the Yuma Police Department (YPD) reported the arrest taking place.
A traffic stop had been conducted by a law enforcement officer for a civil traffic violation that occurred in the vicinity of East Main Canal Road and West 16th Street. The cyclist was being stopped for the offense.
Danny Garibay, 40 years old, was eventually determined to be the person who was stopped by the officer. Garibay initially gave the officer a fictitious name and date of birth in order to avoid being arrested.
As a result of this, he made an attempt to escape the scene by way of his bicycle and cycling away. During the course of the officer’s pursuit, Garibay put down the bicycle and attempted to flee by climbing over a wall and entering a nearby apartment complex.
An officer was able to detain Garibay within the apartment complex, despite the fact that he made an effort to avoid being captured.
Nevertheless, Garibay continued to conceal his true identity even after he was taken into custody, and he refused to disclose any information that may be used to identify him.
Garibay was found to be in possession of a minor quantity of methamphetamine as well as a firearm with a serial number that had been tampered with by the officers who were conducting the arrest.
After determining Garibay’s identity, the Yuma Police Department moved him to the Yuma Sector Border Patrol so that he could undergo additional identification procedures.

When the authorities validated Garibay’s identity, they found out that he was wanted for arrest in Atwater, California, and that the warrant was still available. A double homicide that had occurred in October of 2023 was the subject of the warrant that was issued.
Following the disclosure of this information, Garibay was taken into custody and placed into the Yuma County Detention Center. At this time, he is being charged with a number of counts, including illegal possession of methamphetamine and possession of a handgun that has had its serial number altered.
