Chicago, IL – Up to 3 inches of snowfall is expected today in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, making roads slippery and travel conditions challenging.
The National Weather Service (NWS) expects snowfall to begin this afternoon, continuing into the evening before tapering off from west to east. Areas south of Kankakee and the Illinois River valleys, including Kankakee, Joliet and Valparaiso, are likely to see accumulations between 1 to 3 inches.
According to the NWS, untreated roads can be dangerous, especially after sunset when temperatures drop below zero. Drivers should use caution, allow extra time, and check conditions before traveling.
Major affected areas included cities from Sterling, Illinois to Valparaiso, Indiana. Snowfall may also briefly affect the Chicago metro, although accumulations there are expected to be closer to an inch.
