KANSAS CITY, MO – A winter storm warning has been issued for parts of Kansas and Missouri from Saturday evening through late Sunday night. Forecasters are predicting heavy snowfall, with totals expected between 4 and 13 inches. The heaviest accumulations are likely north of Interstate 70.
Snow accumulations of up to a third of an inch are possible, especially south of Interstate 70, according to the National Weather Service. Windy conditions can cause blowing snow, greatly reduce visibility and make travel dangerous.
The affected area includes parts of central, north central, northeast, northwest, and west-central Missouri, as well as east-central and northeast Kansas. Major cities such as Kansas City, St. Joseph and Independence are in the storm’s projected path.
Residents are urged to prepare by stocking up on emergency supplies, checking heating systems and avoiding non-essential travel during the storm. It is expected that the winter storm watch will be upgraded to a warning or advisory as the event approaches.
