DODGE CITY, KS – Drivers in southwestern Kansas should prepare for hazardous travel conditions starting Friday morning as dense fog and freezing rain threaten the area. Local forecasters are warning that visibility could drop to less than a mile between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m., especially on U.S. Route 400 and surrounding roads.
According to the National Weather Service, dense fog will develop Friday morning, creating dangerous conditions for travelers. Later into the weekend, freezing rain and light snow are expected, with a 30-40% chance of precipitation starting Saturday night. Temperatures will drop into the teens, bringing gusty winds and icy conditions.
Friday’s high will reach 43°F after the fog clears, but drivers are urged to use low beams and maintain a safe distance. By Saturday, clouds will increase and freezing rain overnight could make roads slick and dangerous. The worst of the weather is expected on Sunday, when snow and wind could affect visibility and travel.
Looking ahead, Monday will see sunny skies and highs near 30°F, providing a brief respite before cooler temperatures return on Tuesday.
