Huntsville, AL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Huntsville issued a wind advisory for northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee. The advisory remains active until 6 p.m. today, warning of gusts up to 35 mph.
According to the NWS, sustained winds of 15 to 20 mph are affecting areas including Huntsville, Florence, and Fayetteville. Officials recommend securing outdoor items to prevent damage and driving with caution, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Sudden gusts may cause vehicles to veer off course or make driving conditions hazardous.
“Keep both hands on the wheel and avoid distractions when driving,” the NWS advised in its morning bulletin. They also recommend avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities during peak wind conditions.
High winds are likely to disrupt travel and outdoor plans in the advisory zone, which stretches from Florence to Fort Payne and includes Cullman and Stevenson. The strongest gusts are expected near Huntsville and along higher elevations.
Residents should stay updated through local weather channels and the NWS website. The advisory ends at 6 p.m., but officials urge caution even as winds begin to subside this evening.
Ensure all lightweight outdoor objects, like patio furniture and trash bins, are secured. For additional updates, follow the National Weather Service Huntsville office on social media or visit weather.gov/hun.
