St. Louis, MO – As 2025 begins, a cold front is set to bring gusty winds and snow flurries to eastern Missouri and western Illinois. Residents should prepare for breezy conditions and falling temperatures on New Year’s Day, particularly along the I-70 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, gusts could reach up to 40 mph during the day Wednesday, creating hazardous conditions for travelers. While snowfall is expected to be light with no significant accumulations, the combination of flurries and gusty winds could reduce visibility on roads. Drivers should remain cautious, especially during early-morning commutes.

The forecast shows temperatures peaking at 38°F during the day before dropping into the mid-20s overnight. Winds are expected to subside gradually by Wednesday evening, leading to calmer weather through Thursday. By the weekend, sunny skies will return, but temperatures will remain cool, ranging from the mid-30s on Friday to the low 30s Saturday.

Residents celebrating New Year’s Day outdoors should bundle up, as wind chills will make it feel even colder. Those planning to travel on I-70 or other major highways are urged to monitor road conditions and allow extra travel time.

For the remainder of the week, no hazardous weather is expected after Wednesday, though freezing rain may develop by Sunday night.
