Baltimore, MD — Maryland residents should prepare for a shift in the weather this week, starting with rain on New Year’s Eve. A system moving in from the west will bring showers to Baltimore on Tuesday afternoon, followed by cooler air as we transition into 2025.
According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s high is expected to reach 58 degrees before rain begins after 4 p.m. Winds could gust up to 18 mph, impacting visibility and road safety on major thoroughfares like I-95 and the Baltimore Beltway. Drivers should plan extra time for their New Year’s Eve commutes and keep an umbrella handy.
Rain chances linger into Tuesday night, with lows around 45 degrees. While rainfall amounts will likely stay below a quarter-inch, standing water could still affect roadways. By New Year’s Day, temperatures will drop further, with highs near 50 degrees and lows falling to 33.
For those traveling to the western parts of Maryland, snow showers are expected over the Alleghenies by Wednesday. Thursday will bring drier conditions but much cooler temperatures, with highs only reaching the low 40s and overnight lows plunging into the 20s.
By Friday, daytime temperatures will hover in the low 40s, and snow showers may develop in higher elevations. Residents are encouraged to check local forecasts for updates and avoid travel in affected areas.
Stay safe by preparing for sudden weather changes this week. Keep an eye on forecasts, and dress warmly as colder conditions settle in later this week.
