San Francisco, CA – Residents across the Bay Area should prepare for plunging overnight temperatures, with frost and freezing conditions expected beginning Tuesday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that these conditions could be hazardous for unsheltered individuals and those with marginal shelter.
According to the NWS, temperatures will dip into the low 40s tonight, dropping further to the mid-to-low 30s in inland areas by Tuesday night. Frost is likely to develop in these regions, posing risks to vulnerable populations, pets, plants, and exposed pipes. The cold snap is forecast to last through midweek, impacting both urban and rural areas.
To prepare, the NWS urges residents to follow the “Four Ps of Cold Weather Protection”: dress in layers, bring pets indoors, cover sensitive plants, and insulate outdoor pipes to prevent freezing. Those with outdoor plans for New Year’s Eve should dress warmly and monitor weather updates for any sudden changes.
Looking ahead, temperatures will remain chilly through Thursday, with highs in the mid-50s and lows near 40 degrees. Patchy fog is possible later in the week, particularly Thursday night into Friday. By the weekend, conditions may slightly improve, with highs in the upper 50s.
Stay informed by checking weather updates regularly and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this cold spell.
