Bude, MS – Severe storms are tearing through the South, causing widespread destruction and fatalities in multiple states. Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana are experiencing significant damage, power outages, and hazardous conditions.
At least one death has been reported in Liverpool, Texas, and four others were injured as a tornado struck near Houston. In Bude, Mississippi, a woman became trapped inside her home after a tree fell on it, blocking her escape. Franklin County is reporting 30% of its utility customers without power.
According to the NOAA Storm Prediction Center, winds exceeding 80 mph have been recorded in parts of Louisiana, including Fort Johnson and Zwolle. Power outages are also widespread in Texas and Louisiana, impacting over 66,000 residents.
FlightAware reports more than 1,900 flight delays and cancellations at major Texas airports, disrupting travel during one of the year’s busiest weekends.
The storm system has left homes obliterated, including new constructions in Splendora, Texas. Emergency crews continue rescue efforts, while authorities urge residents to monitor warnings and remain indoors.
Officials are closely monitoring storm conditions as the risk of additional tornadoes persists through the night.
