Jackson, MS – Residents across parts of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas are under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service (NWS) warned of a “particularly dangerous situation,” with conditions favorable for multiple strong tornadoes.
According to the NWS, the tornado watch affects over two million people across the region. Damaging winds up to 80 mph and large hail are also likely. The watch includes major cities such as Jackson, Alexandria, and Monroe, where meteorologists are closely monitoring severe thunderstorms.
Emergency officials urge residents to stay alert and have a safety plan in place. “Remain indoors, monitor local alerts, and be ready to move to a safe location,” officials advised. Tornadoes can form quickly, making preparedness critical during severe weather events.
Additional warnings may follow if the weather continues to deteriorate. The NWS is also monitoring conditions in Lower Acadiana, where extended tornado watches could be issued later tonight.
Residents are encouraged to tune in to NOAA Weather Radio for updates. Widespread power outages and structural damage remain a significant threat in affected areas.
Stay cautious, follow alerts, and prioritize safety as severe weather unfolds.
