Indianapolis, IN – Heavy rain is set to move into Indiana late Saturday evening, bringing the potential for localized flooding through Sunday morning. The heaviest rainfall is expected along the I-69 corridor, with totals exceeding two inches in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, widespread showers will intensify overnight, with moderate to heavy rain rates persisting through Sunday morning. Flooding in low-lying areas and near poorly drained roads may impact travel, especially southwest of Indianapolis. Drivers should remain cautious and avoid flooded roadways.
Showers will taper off by Sunday afternoon, leaving behind cloudy skies and a high of 50 degrees. Winds could gust up to 28 mph during the peak rainfall.
Looking ahead, New Year’s Eve on Tuesday will bring additional rain as a low-pressure system sweeps through the Midwest. Temperatures will drop sharply midweek, with a high near 36 degrees expected by Wednesday, accompanied by mostly cloudy conditions.
The extended forecast for Indianapolis includes:
• Monday: Partly sunny, high of 50 degrees.
• Tuesday (New Year’s Eve): Rain likely, high of 46 degrees.
• Wednesday: Cloudy and colder, high of 36 degrees.
• Thursday: Mostly sunny, high of 41 degrees.
