Atlanta, GA – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect this morning for areas along and near Interstate 20 in north Georgia, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less. Residents and travelers should exercise extreme caution, as road conditions remain hazardous until the advisory lifts at 10 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy rainfall will intensify throughout Saturday night into Sunday morning, with localized flooding and minor river overflow possible. A Slight Risk for severe weather exists across the region on Sunday, with thunderstorms potentially producing damaging wind gusts and brief tornadoes.
Saturday’s high will reach 56°F, with drizzle, scattered showers, and areas of fog persisting through the day. Sunday morning thunderstorms are likely to strengthen between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., bringing peak winds of up to 25 mph. Rainfall amounts could total up to two inches in some areas.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will offer clearer skies and calmer conditions. Expect mostly sunny weather Monday, with a high of 63°F. New Year’s Day is forecast to be partly sunny and mild, reaching 64°F.
Drivers along I-20 and other major roadways should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions, especially through Sunday afternoon. The NWS advises residents to monitor updates, avoid flooded areas, and prepare for potential power outages.
