Boston, MA – A winter weather advisory is in effect for northern Connecticut and central, western, and northeast Massachusetts early Saturday morning. Freezing rain is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across the region, with the greatest impact on areas along and west of I-95.
According to the National Weather Service, light freezing rain will begin around 4 a.m. Saturday and persist until early afternoon. Ice accumulation is forecast to be minimal, with amounts reaching up to a tenth of an inch. However, even small amounts of ice can make roads treacherous. Motorists are advised to delay non-essential travel and exercise caution, especially on untreated roads.
Temperatures will hover near freezing in the morning, rising to a high of 41 degrees by midday. Winds will remain calm, limiting additional hazards, but patchy fog could reduce visibility. Overnight into Sunday, expect drizzle and rain as temperatures climb into the mid-40s.
The weekend forecast also highlights a broader warming trend. Sunday will bring more rain and a high of 53 degrees, with heavier rainfall likely Sunday night into Monday. By New Year’s Day, temperatures are expected to peak near 49 degrees, with more rain in the forecast.
Travelers and residents should monitor updates from local authorities and prepare for possible delays. Those commuting along I-95 should plan extra time and keep emergency supplies on hand.
