San Francisco, CA — A high surf advisory is now in effect for California’s Pacific Coast, with dangerous waves expected through Sunday morning. Swells of 20 to 30 feet are forecast, creating life-threatening conditions for beachgoers and mariners.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory remains active until 4 a.m. Sunday. Experts urge inexperienced swimmers to avoid entering the water due to the risk of powerful currents and cold-water shock. Authorities warn residents to stay off jetties, piers, and rocks as large waves may sweep over these structures.
Saturday will bring additional concerns, with heavy rain expected to drench the San Francisco Bay Area. Forecasts indicate a 100% chance of rain Sunday, which could complicate post-Christmas travel plans. Flood advisories are also in place, urging drivers to exercise caution on saturated roads and low-lying areas.
The five-day forecast shows more stable conditions early next week. Sunday night will be mostly clear, with temperatures dipping to 46°F. Monday brings sunny skies and a high near 57°F, offering a brief reprieve before colder temperatures return midweek.
Residents are advised to monitor updates and prepare for hazardous conditions. For coastal visitors, experts emphasize never turning your back on the ocean.
