Cheyenne, WY — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Sierra Madre Range, effective from noon Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. Residents and visitors should prepare for heavy snow and gusty winds, the National Weather Service announced Wednesday.
According to the advisory, snowfall between 5 and 9 inches is expected, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph. The combination of falling and blowing snow will reduce visibility, making outdoor recreation and travel hazardous.
The advisory warns that hunters, hikers, and snowmobilers risk becoming disoriented and lost. Travel may be treacherous, especially for those unprepared for rapidly changing weather conditions. Drivers should use caution, reduce speeds, and check road conditions by dialing 511.
The Sierra Madre Range, known for its scenic beauty, often attracts outdoor enthusiasts, but severe winter storms can escalate risks. Residents and visitors should monitor weather updates and consider postponing outdoor activities.
Stay safe this winter by preparing for emergencies and staying informed. Check weather updates frequently and share this advisory with others planning trips to the Sierra Madre Range.
