Huntsville, AL – A strong weather system is forecast to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the Tennessee Valley starting Friday. Residents and travelers should prepare for potential flash flooding and gusty winds, particularly on Saturday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, severe storms are expected late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night across northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee. Localized flash flooding and isolated tornadoes are possible as the storm system strengthens. Those traveling on I-565 and surrounding roadways should exercise caution, as reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions are likely.
Friday will see increasing rain chances, with a high near 59 degrees and winds gusting up to 15 mph. Showers and thunderstorms will become widespread Friday night, continuing into Saturday. Daytime highs on Saturday will climb to 67 degrees, accompanied by persistent rain and possible thunder. By Saturday night, conditions could deteriorate further with heavy rainfall and winds reaching up to 20 mph.
Sunday will bring some relief, as rain chances drop and skies begin to clear. However, morning thunderstorms could linger, particularly in southern areas. Highs will reach 64 degrees, followed by cooler, partly cloudy conditions Sunday night.
Residents are advised to stay weather-aware by monitoring local updates and having multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts. Stock emergency supplies, secure outdoor furniture, and review family communication plans ahead of the storm.
