Billings, MT — Montana drivers face hazardous travel conditions through Thursday as strong winds sweep across the western foothills.
The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of powerful southwesterly to westerly winds, with gusts peaking at 65 mph in areas like Livingston and 50 mph near Big Timber. According to NWS, the strongest winds will occur between late Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon. Motorists in high-profile vehicles are advised to delay travel or seek alternate routes due to heightened risks.
Red and yellow-shaded areas indicate the most dangerous conditions, with a high probability of 60+ mph gusts. Reduced visibility, especially on exposed roads, could make driving treacherous. High winds may also impact light objects or structures, so securing outdoor items is recommended.
Montanans are urged to monitor weather updates and use caution on the roads. Slow down, maintain a firm grip on the wheel, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind periods.
