Salt Lake City, UT – Utah’s northern mountains could see up to 3 feet of snow by the weekend as winter storms sweep through the region. Heavy snow accumulation is expected in the Bear River Mountains, Ben Lomond vicinity, and the Upper Cottonwoods.
The National Weather Service reported Wednesday that the snow would begin on Christmas Day and continue through the weekend. A Thursday-Friday storm will impact central and northern mountains before shifting northward. Snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour are expected during peak periods.
According to the National Weather Service, the storms could bring total snow accumulations ranging from 1 to 3 feet. The highest totals will fall in northern Utah, particularly in mountainous regions. Residents should prepare for hazardous driving conditions, especially in mountain passes.
Although southern Utah will see much less snow, the central and northern mountains remain under moderate weather risk. Travel advisories urge residents to check road conditions and carry winter survival kits.
Snowfall is expected to taper off by Monday, leaving skiers and snowboarders with fresh powder across the state.
