Duluth, MN – Northern Minnesota residents should prepare for dense fog and persistent rain Friday through the weekend, potentially complicating post-holiday travel. Unseasonably warm temperatures and reduced visibility will dominate, especially near Lake Superior and major highways like I-35.
According to the National Weather Service, areas of patchy drizzle Thursday evening will intensify into steady rain by Friday afternoon, with rainfall amounts ranging from 0.5 to 0.75 inches. Visibility may drop significantly due to widespread fog, creating hazardous conditions for drivers. Travelers are advised to exercise caution and allow extra time for their journeys.
Friday’s high is expected to reach 40°F, with light winds from the east. Rain will taper off late Friday night, but patchy fog will linger through Saturday morning. Weekend highs will remain above freezing, peaking at 37°F on Sunday.
Saturday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and intermittent showers, while Sunday will bring mild conditions with some sunshine. Cooler temperatures will return Monday as highs dip to 35°F under partly sunny skies.
Motorists along Highway 61 and I-35 should remain alert for slick roads and poor visibility. Residents are urged to stay updated on changing conditions via local forecasts and weather apps.
Be sure to prepare for delays if traveling and secure any outdoor holiday decorations as winds could gust to 20 mph.
