WPBN: The Mississippi Department of Corrections made a post on Facebook stating that on Wednesday, a convicted killer who had escaped from a state prison in Mississippi on Christmas Eve was apprehended.
According to the post, Drew Johnson was apprehended after being found in a location close to the prison.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections reports that Johnson was able to escape from the newest state prison in Greene County, Mississippi, on Christmas Eve, nearly three years after he was sentenced to life in prison on Valentine’s Day in 2022. Johnson was already serving his sentence.
“Desperate” and “very very dangerous” were two words that the authorities in Mississippi used to describe Johnson.
“Call your family and alert them. Send messages to them and get responses,” In a Facebook post, the George County Sheriff’s Department issued a warning regarding the jail escape. “People tend to be more generous during Christmas and let their guard down. Be vigilant and be careful.”
This individual, who is 33 years old, has a history of violent criminal activity that spans numerous states. A news release issued by the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office in Tennessee stated that in 2022, he entered a guilty plea to a number of violent acts that were not related to one another.
An associate of Johnson’s was stabbed more than twenty times in 2016, and Johnson then left the victim’s body in a field in southwest Memphis. Johnson’s actions were fatal.
Even while he was incarcerated, his aggressive behavior continued. During the year 2021, Johnson was detained in Tennessee, and according to the office of the district attorney, he assaulted another prisoner by repeatedly hitting him in the head with a brick.
While Johnson was incarcerated in 2019, he also entered a guilty plea to the charge of lighting multiple fires.
According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, Johnson was given a sentence of life in prison without the chance of parole for the crime of murder.
Additionally, he was given prison terms of fifteen years for each of his previous offenses, and all of these sentences are to be served simultaneously.
