Grand Junction, CO – A significant snowstorm is set to hit the Elkhead and Park Mountains, bringing up to 12 inches of snow by Friday night.
The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, warning of dangerous conditions. According to the advisory, heavy snowfall and wind gusts up to 35 mph will make travel hazardous. Accumulations could exceed a foot in some areas, with the heaviest snow expected Friday morning.
Travelers should exercise caution as road conditions are likely to deteriorate rapidly. Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes may be especially treacherous. Officials recommend checking road conditions by calling 511 before traveling.
Residents of Columbine, Hahns Peak, and Toponas are urged to prepare for delays and limited visibility. Strong winds may cause drifting snow, further complicating travel.
Stay updated with the latest weather developments and make plans to limit non-essential travel during the advisory period.
