Sacramento, CA – Wet weather is making a comeback in Sacramento today, bringing showers and patchy fog that could disrupt post-Christmas travel on I-5 and surrounding roads. Motorists should prepare for low visibility and slippery conditions during evening commutes and holiday travel.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), light rain is expected to start late Thursday afternoon and continue into the evening. Patchy fog will develop overnight, reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile in some areas. Travelers are urged to slow down and use fog lights while driving.
On Friday, steady rain will dominate early morning hours, with gusty winds reaching up to 24 mph in the Sacramento area. Showers will persist throughout the day, with new rainfall totals of up to half an inch possible. Conditions will remain wet and breezy into Friday night.
The weekend forecast shows no immediate break from the rain. Saturday is expected to see additional showers, with an 80% chance of precipitation overnight. Sunday will bring the heaviest rain of the week, potentially impacting outdoor plans and local events.
Relief is on the horizon by Monday, when clear skies and sunshine are predicted to return. Highs will reach the mid-50s, providing a welcome break from the soggy conditions.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the NWS and prepare for delays if traveling this weekend. Keep an umbrella handy and avoid flooded roadways when possible.
