Lake Charles, LA – Severe weather is expected to sweep through Louisiana and Southeast Texas on Thursday, bringing risks of tornadoes, heavy rainfall, and strong winds. The National Weather Service has issued a Level 2 (Slight) risk for the region, including the I-10 corridor, with severe weather developing late Thursday afternoon into the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, thunderstorms could intensify during the afternoon as unstable air masses collide with an upper-level disturbance. Damaging winds up to 60 mph, large hail, and a few tornadoes remain possible as these storms move from west to east, potentially disrupting travel and holiday plans. Urban flooding is also a concern due to heavy downpours.
Travelers along I-10 and surrounding areas should remain vigilant, as conditions could rapidly deteriorate. Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects and prepare emergency plans in case of severe weather. Stay updated by monitoring official weather alerts and local news.
Looking ahead, showers will linger Friday with a 50% chance of rain, followed by drier conditions Saturday and Sunday. Highs will range from the low 70s on Friday to mid-70s on Saturday, cooling slightly overnight. By Sunday, sunny skies and highs near 72 degrees will provide a much-needed reprieve.
Residents should continue monitoring forecasts and plan for potential disruptions. The post-Christmas travel period may see challenging weather, but calmer skies are expected by the weekend.
