Memphis, TN – Post-Christmas travel plans could face disruptions Thursday night as severe storms target Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi. The storm system is expected to bring damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and flash flooding to the region.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Memphis reports that storms will likely begin after 8 p.m., continuing into the early hours of Friday. Tennessee is at the center of the threat, with portions of Arkansas and Mississippi also at risk. A “Marginal Risk” for severe storms is in effect, while certain areas face a higher chance of excessive rainfall, potentially triggering flash floods.
Travelers are advised to exercise caution as strong winds and heavy rain could create hazardous driving conditions. Flash flooding is most likely in low-lying and urban areas, making road closures a possibility.
With the threat of isolated tornadoes, residents should ensure they have a safety plan and multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Power outages may also occur in the hardest-hit areas.
