Caribou, ME – A powerful winter storm blanketed parts of Maine on Tuesday, dropping up to 12 inches of snow in areas from Dexter to Dover-Foxcroft. Coastal Downeast regions are expected to see an additional 3 to 6 inches as snowfall intensifies through mid-afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Caribou, snow will gradually taper off from northwest to southeast throughout the day. Travel conditions, severely impacted by the heavy snow, are expected to improve dramatically as clearing begins by late afternoon.
The heaviest snowfall recorded so far has been in central Maine, with residents advised to avoid non-essential travel. Downeast Maine remains under an advisory as the storm shifts eastward.
Road crews are working around the clock to clear major highways, but local authorities urge drivers to exercise caution, especially in untreated areas. Power outages remain a concern due to wet, heavy snow accumulating on tree branches and power lines.
