Lake Charles, LA – Severe weather is set to impact Louisiana and Southeast Texas this evening, with risks of damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and urban flooding. Residents in the region should prepare for potentially hazardous conditions starting tonight and extending into early Christmas morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a storm system will approach Southeast Texas tonight, bringing wind gusts, possible hail, and localized flooding in poor drainage areas. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are expected in some areas, increasing the risk of flash flooding. The disturbance will weaken as it moves into Louisiana early Wednesday.
A second, stronger system is forecast for late Thursday into Friday morning, with severe thunderstorms, large hail, and isolated tornadoes possible. Urban areas, including roadways near Beaumont and Interstate 10, are at heightened risk for flooding.
Christmas Day will see lighter showers with highs in the low 70s, providing brief relief before severe weather returns Thursday evening. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and monitor updates from local authorities throughout the week.
For those traveling during the holiday, plan for delays and avoid low-lying roadways during periods of heavy rainfall. Emergency kits, including flashlights and water, are recommended.
The extended forecast indicates scattered showers Friday and Saturday, with warmer temperatures reaching the mid-70s.
