San Francisco: The San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest on Saturday during an attempted robbery in the Union Square neighborhood of downtown San Francisco. The 23-year-old Pearsall’s health is currently serious but stable.
In addition to being in arrest, the incident’s suspect got medical attention. On social media, San Francisco Mayor London Breed verified the shooting. Breed posted on X, saying, “Ricky and his family are in my thoughts right now.” The attack took place close to Grant Avenue and Geary Street, a location well-known for its heavy foot traffic.
Gunshot wound on the chest
The San Francisco police reported that during the robbery, Pearsall was attacked. During the altercation, Pearsall and the suspect both sustained injuries, and they were taken to a nearby hospital. In a social media post, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott declared, “This kind of violence has no place in our city and will never be tolerated.”
Pearsall suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, according to an update on his status from the 49ers. According to a statement from the team, “We ask that you please respect his privacy at this time,” the AP said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family.” On social media, teammate Deebo Samuel also shared his relief. “He’s doing well. Thank heaven for that. Samuel contributed to X.
He made a comeback to practice
Pearsall was selected 31st overall by the 49ers with their first-round selection in the NFL Draft this past April. He had experienced shoulder and hamstring strains since joining the squad, but he had just recently made a comeback to practice, donning a non contact jersey as he healed.
Pearsall played his first two seasons of college ball at Arizona State University before transferring to the University of Florida. He enjoyed a standout season with the Florida Gators the previous year, hauling in 65 passes for 965 yards and four scores.
At the end of his college career, he had 14 touchdowns and 2,420 yards from 159 receptions. The 49ers held great hopes for Pearsall’s first season, particularly considering that he was Deebo Samuel’s and Brandon Aiyuk’s backup.
