Norway: Following three days of festivities, the eldest child of the Norwegian king, Princess Märtha Louise, married an American self-professed shaman on Saturday. Among the guests were social media influencers, reality stars, and TV personalities.
The 52-year-old Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett, who describes himself as a sixth-generation Californian shaman, got married in the quaint little town of Geiranger, which is situated on a fjord with breathtaking views and is one of Norway’s top tourist destinations.
Couple sold the film rights to Netflix
The wedding ceremony was held in a big white tent that was erected on a verdant lawn, following festivities that began on Thursday. Media outlets were informed by attendees that a gospel choir, a vocalist representing the Sámi people of Norway, and US and Norwegian performers performed during the event.
“It was excellent! Harald Rønneberg, a TV celebrity from Norway, characterized the vibrant ceremony to public broadcaster NRK as “Hollywood meets Geiranger.” It was love and gospel. We clapped, laughed, and felt moved. It was breathtakingly lovely. The couple sold Netflix the film rights and British celebrity magazine Hello! the rights to their wedding photos. The Norwegian media, claiming that the agreement is against customs, protested the deals.
The duo uses social media to promote themselves and has frequently taken aim at the media. Along with Queen Sonja and other members of the Norwegian royal family, 87-year-old King Harald attended his daughter’s wedding despite experiencing health issues in recent years.
Along with her brother Prince Carl Philip and his wife Princess Sofia, Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Prince Daniel represented the Swedish royal family. The wedding was attended by no other European royals.
Royal Family has negatively impacted by the rumors
The wedding takes place in the midst of intense criticism of the couple’s behavior and dwindling public support for the Norwegian royal family, who have also been negatively impacted by rumors of an unruly relative who is being investigated for possible domestic abuse.
Märtha Louise and 49-year-old Verrett have made news due to their unconventional views. Although she is fourth in line for the Norwegian throne, she said in 2022 that she will no longer be the royal house’s official representative.
The princess, who has kept her title, has declared that she can speak with angels, while Verrett says he can speak with a variety of spirits and wears a medallion that can heal illnesses and fight off spells. 2022 saw their engagement. Verrett won’t hold any formal positions or a royal title when they get married. Märtha Louise and Verrett decided in 2019 not to utilize her rank or connection to the royal family for profit.
However, Märtha Louise disregarded King Harald’s order that she should not capitalize on her royal status earlier this year by branding gin bottles with her title and launching the company in time for the nuptials. Eventually, the label was altered. After 14 years of marriage, Märtha Louise and writer and author Ari Behn got divorced in 2017. Together, they had three children.
