CPP Pursues State Tax Credits for $4.9 Million Elmore Roberts Apartments Renovation
Public Hearing Highlights CPP’s Efforts to Maintain Affordable Housing in Great Falls
According to The Electric, Community Preservation Partners (CPP) is seeking state tax credits to finance a $4.9 million renovation of the Elmore Roberts Apartments in downtown Great Falls. This renovation will update the 60-unit building improving energy efficiency and safety while keeping it affordable for low-income residents. At the July 18 City Commission meeting CPP explained the plan and a public hearing was held to discuss community housing needs. Although the commissioners don’t vote on the tax credits their review is required by state law. CPP is working with NeighborWorks Great Falls to ensure the project meets local housing needs.
CPP is seeking low-income housing tax credits from the Montana Board of Housing to keep the Elmore Roberts Apartments affordable as current federal subsidies are ending. Without these credits the apartments could shift to market-rate making them unaffordable for tenants. CPP’s Ryan Kucich stated that the planned renovation will maintain affordability for another 50 years.

Local Leaders Rally Behind Elmore Roberts Apartments Renovation for Affordable Housing
The Elmore Roberts Apartments renovation is part of a larger effort to improve affordable housing in Great Falls. Local leaders like Kellie Pierce from the Business Improvement District and Brett Doney from the Great Falls Development Alliance support the project. They believe it is essential for keeping downtown vibrant and affordable. This project along with other housing initiatives like Carter Commons and the Baatz Building rehabilitation is a positive step toward solving the city’s affordable housing problems and helping those facing homelessness.
