Last week, a Michigan lady was arrested for burning her husband on fire while he slept and killing a prominent butcher shop owner.

At the beginning of this year, Julie Boxley was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and arson in connection to the death of her boss as well as her roommate. (Source: The New York Post)

Charges of First Degree Murder and Arson

According to online court documents, Julie Boxley, 52, was charged with first-degree murder and arson Friday for the death of her employer and roommate Glenn Andrews earlier this year. Two weeks after Andrews’ home unexpectedly caught fire in March, the 72-year-old butcher died from his injuries. In the Northern Peninsula city of Ishpeming, he owned Glenn’s Smokehouse, which marketed gourmet meats. Jill, Andrews’ daughter, told the Upper Michigan Source that Boxley moved in with them just before the fire to aid Linda, who was ailing.

After years as Linda’s babysitter, the suspected pyromaniac moved to Alger County and is accused of dousing her husband with liquid and tossing a match at him. “She appeared on his front porch and asked, ‘I need a job do you still need help?’ Jill told the publication, “He said yes, and she said I need a place to live, and we thought this is great.” The mourning family was startled to find that their mother’s faithful babysitter may have killed Andrews, calling her a family member. “I was floored when the detective told us everything he knew and laid it out for us. I couldn’t imagine someone so committed to this family would harm them. Melissa, the couple’s daughter-in-law, said she was amazed.

She Tries to Burn Her Husband

After the fire she allegedly started, Boxley spent weeks in the hospital. After losing everything in the fire, her family started a GoFundMe effort to assist Boxley in recovery. The campaign raised almost $2,200. The bedroom filled with smoke and the lower level was on fire when they woke up. Glenn, her roommate, went down the stairs but fled through the rear door, the fundraiser claimed. Julie jumped from her second-story window to safety. Her barefoot running caused smoke inhalation and frostbite on her feet, but Glenn wasn’t as lucky.”

Boxley was on trial for allegedly trying to burn her ex-husband on Christmas Day 2021. Her then-husband James Boxley testified that she poured a substance on him and hurled matches while he slept. James Boxley claims he threw the blazing blanket out the window, but his wife attacked him, lighted matches, and told him she despised him. Ms. Boxley has a history of mental illness, according to defense counsel Jennifer France, who stated in August after a court-ordered trial that when they receive all of the evidence back from the forensic center, they would be able to assess how severely sick she was at the time. Boxley was charged with grievous bodily harm less than murder and assault with intent to murder for attacking her then-husband. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month after she pled not guilty.
