Tammy became a Category 2 hurricane Wednesday morning. It may strengthen Wednesday before fading later in the week as it turns northwest, according to the National Hurricane Center.

After Hurricane Tammy passed through the area, workers in Trois-Rivières, which is located on the island of Guadeloupe, began cleaning the city’s streets. Guadeloupe was only in the path of Hurricane Tammy for a brief period of time on October 21, 2023, but the island has not yet experienced the end of the awful weather. Flooding was caused by heavy rains, which caused rivers to overflow their banks and cause flooding in the surrounding area. (Source: USA Today)

According to National Hurricane Center Reports

The current cone forecast points the storm back toward the United States. Bermuda is expected to see heavy rain, strong winds, and rough surf for the rest of the week. Tammy triggered no alerts or warnings. Hurricane Tammy could move in either direction by Thursday, according to Dan Kottlowski, AccuWeather’s senior meteorologist and chief hurricane forecaster. However, projections in North Carolina and Florida predict ocean surges from Tammy’s long Atlantic cruise. Otis, a Category 5 hurricane, made landfall Tuesday night in Acapulco, Mexico.

The National Hurricane Center reported Category 1 Hurricane Tammy hitting Barbuda Saturday night. According to the Associated Press, the island saw heavy rainfall and high gusts but no major infrastructure damage. The storm downed electricity lines, triggering an island-wide outage. Radio France International reported considerable building and infrastructure damage in Guadeloupe. Vince and Whitney remain on the 2023 storm list after Hurricane Tammy. Hurricane season runs until Nov. 30, although storms form anytime. This season has had more named storms than usual. In an average hurricane season, 14 named storms form in the Atlantic basin (Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico). The hurricane center says the season peaks on Sept. 10 and is most active between mid-August and mid-October.
