The Best Dog-friendly Events Celebrated in Vancouver

Living with a dog in Vancouver is a dreamer’s paradise. The city is filled with endless opportunities to take your furry friend on adventures. From dog-friendly beaches and trails to parks, there’s no shortage of activities where you can take pride in being a dog companion.

Neighbourhoods like Yaletown, West End, and Cambie Village are renowned for being extremely dog friendly. So, it’s no surprise that some of the best dog events in Vancouver are hosted in these areas. Moreover, you’ll never run out of off-leash dog areas, which Vancouver boasts of being unsurpassed by any other Canadian city.

2021 was a highlight year for Vancouver, with several dog-friendly events celebrated. Here are our favourites:

1 – GLOW Maple Ridge

If you and your pup love getting outdoors, then this is the event for you! GLOW Maple Ridge is a family and dog-friendly event that takes place every year, from November up to January.

2021 was a blast, with the city filling up the Town Centre and Memorial Peace Park with a massive light tunnel, an art tree, and the famous glowing bandstand. If you’re looking for a festive winter activity to do with your dog, this is it!

2 – The Festival of Trees

This annual tradition by the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is a must-see for all dog parents. Every year, the hotel transforms its lobby into a magical winter wonderland, with an impressive display of trees decorated by local businesses and different organizations. Last year’s festival ran from November to January, and all the proceeds went towards BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. You better mark your calendars for next year’s event if you missed it!

3 – Vancouver Winter Farmers’ Market

The Vancouver Winter Farmer’s Market is the perfect place to find locally grown produce and unique gifts for your loved ones. But did you know that it’s also one of the most dog-friendly events in Vancouver?

Held in the parking lot of Nat Bailey Stadium from November to April, the market features over 80 vendors selling everything from fresh produce to artisanal cheese and homemade preserves. And, of course, there’s plenty of space for your pup to run around and make new furry friends.

There’s a lot of space to roam around, plus Riley Park is nearby. So, Fido will find this experience quite delightful.

4 – Eastside Flea Holiday Markets

With your furry buddy on a short leash, you’ll be able to explore all the vintage finds and locally made goods at Eastside Flea. These markets open in December, although they faced an extended closure due to the pandemic. Thankfully, the Eastside Flea opened its doors last year with an incredible turnout of over 50 vendors.

If you’re unconvinced that his place is dog-friendly, look at their official Instagram page, where they share dog visits and stories in the flea. It’ll make your heart melt!

5 – Lights at LaFarge

The LaFarge Lake Park Association organizes this community event, and it’s one of the most popular dog-friendly events in Vancouver.
The park is transformed into a festive winter wonderland with over 200,000 lights every year. And since it’s located in Coquitlam, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore this beautiful city with your four-legged friend.

Two reasons to explore this event this year: you can bring Fido, and it’s free! They accept donations, and all proceeds go towards maintaining the park. The event opened in November last year and closed its doors by January. It should be one of the events to look forward to come this winter.

6 – Glow Langley

A festive event in Vancouver with your four-legged buddy wouldn’t be complete without a short drive at Glow Langley. Last November’s event was quite a success, attracting over 40,000 people.

What started as a small gathering of friends has transformed into a massive holiday celebration. Families (and their dogs) enjoyed massive baubles and illuminated tunnels and sculptures around the Glow Garden Centre.

7 – Cannery’s Farmer’s Market

Last December’s event was the complete package since the Steveston Festival of Trees was also held inside the market. You and your dog would’ve had a great time strolling and gazing up on those colourful, decorated trees courtesy of the local merchants and trade groups in the area.

This annual event is dog-friendly since it allows pet companions to bring their buddies to Garry Point Park. You can take on the West dyke trail with your furry best friend.

So, these are 2021’s best dog-friendly events celebrated in Vancouver! Add these to your calendar and include your furry buddy in on the fun this year!
