A couple living in Ontario recently had their truck stolen out of a parking lot with their beloved dog inside.

On June 6th, Austin Flegel from Strathroy had stopped at a pet store to get a dog treat. He and his girlfriend had just adopted Jaxx, a 1.5-year-old brown Mastiff-Shepherd mix.

“My girlfriend and I went to the dog park in London off Hamilton Road to meet Jaxx and we fell in love, so we adopted him,” he told CBC News. (Access Jaxx Photo Here)

When the pair stopped at PetSmart at Fanshawe Park Road and Richmond Street it was approximately 4:30 p.m. Jaxx was acting a bit uneasy so the couple left him in the truck with the windows cracked. The doors were locked and it was 17 C outside.

“So, we went inside for about five or 10 minutes and came back out and the truck and dog were gone.”

Jaxx weighs approximately 60 lbs and he had a red collar on when he was taken. The stolen vehicle is a black 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The licence plate is AP44762 and the vehicle had orange trim on the grill and hood.

“I’m personally pretty sad about it because, you know, Jaxx really reminded me of my family dog. So that was one of the reasons I picked him out because, you know, it’s such a good match,” said Flegel.

“You know, you really feel for the dog because he was already scared when we got him. And to have the truck stolen and everything, I’m sure he’s probably very scared. It’s really sad.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact London police at 519-661-5670, or to stay anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
