According to CBS News, as the end of the legislative session in Colorado nears, people are waiting to see if property taxes will get relief. Colorado lawmakers have just a few days left to figure it out after they scrapped a bill they were working on two weeks ago. Political Reporter Shaun Boyd says a deal is almost ready offering hope for big help with taxes for everyone.

Senator Chris Hansen, who’s leading the talks feels hopeful after weeks of hard work. They’re trying to make a plan that will help both homeowners and businesses with their taxes. The plan includes making sure taxes don’t suddenly go up and giving direct help to homeowners and small businesses. Colorado lawmakers also want to lower the value of homes that get taxed, cut state taxes a bit, and put limits on how much local governments can collect.

Colorado lawmakers want to keep money for schools safe but they might have to use savings to cover the costs. Senator Hansen believes they’ll get support from local governments and Republicans which is important. Some groups want to make even bigger cuts to taxes which could be harmful. With time running out, Colorado lawmakers are under pressure to find a solution that helps everyone with their property taxes before the session ends next week.
