A San Diego woman who planned to mail Bibles containing hidden heroin to two California prisons was sentenced Friday to more than seven years in prison.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said that after Lucresia Stone-Rojas, 46, was arrested, investigators found packages addressed to prison inmates in her possession.
The packages contained the Bibles, which had a total of about 23 grams of heroin hidden in the book spines, according to prosecutors.
Police originally stopped Stone-Rojas on Nov. 12, 2023, after license plate readers identified an allegedly stolen Porsche near North Second Street and East Main Street in El Cajon. During the stop, officers recovered a loaded 9mm Walther firearm and an additional ammunition magazine.
Multiple prior felony convictions prohibit Stone-Rojas from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
Stone-Rojas pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute heroin and the separate charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. She was sentenced in both cases on Friday.
The maximum penalty for the heroin charge was 20 years in prison, and 15 years on the firearm count.
