If you’ve never had the privilege of seeing a bald eagle close up, these magnificent predators usually tip the scales between six and 15 pounds, with females usually weighing more. And talk about huge … their wingspans range from six to eight feet.

During the 20th century, the population of bald eagles nearly went extinct; significant federal protections have brought their numbers back to being sustainable. After all, these birds are the national birds of the United States, so why shouldn’t they be protected?
It was just last Sunday when an Alaskan hiker, Kerr Will, came across a once in a lifetime situation. He had been traversing a nature trail in Kodiak when his dog started barking. And there they were; two bald eagles tangled together in a tree.
Will had to have been in shock watching all this, and his German shepherd dog – what was he thinking? Although Will did consider trying to help, luckily the two eagles worked out their own problems and were able to escape and fly away without human intervention.
According to the American Eagle Foundation, this behavior frequently occurs during “pair-bonding, aggression, and play.”
These guys definitely play rough!
