Drivers often have no recourse for damage caused by potholes.
Vehicle ownership can be tiresome work in several ways. Drivers have to pay car insurance providers, buy gas, and, unfortunately, sometimes have problems with their vehicles. Recently, multiple people in Ohio sustained damage from the same pothole in a single afternoon. Now, they’re fuming due to the expensive repairs from auto mechanics.
Many people have car problems due to potholes
Most car problems happen as a result of wear and tear. However, drivers can also sustain structural damage due to unsightly road conditions. According to Cleveland 19, Brittany Broadus was recently on her way to pick up her son when she suddenly hit a pothole. People run over these all the time, and most don’t see a reason to pull over. However, the impact was so intense that she pulled into a gas station to look at her tires.
Once at the gas station, Britany was able to examine the problems impacting her car. Sadly, at least one of her tires had ruptured because of the bigger-than-normal pothole. Naturally, she had to search for and pay auto mechanics to fix the issue. She said, “The money that it cost me was extremely hard. I’m already trying just to survive. Gas prices have gone up, food and everything and living expenses.”
Still, she wasn’t the only one experiencing car problems from the pothole. Several drivers at the same gas station had suffered the same fate. It seems they had also pulled over to examine the damage. Desiree Torres also spoke to the outlet. She said, “I’m a single mother trying to just pick up my son and go to work. That pothole made everything really stressful.” She then said that the repairs cost her about a day’s worth of work. She went on, “It was 80-bucks to get the tire. I’m going to actually put it on myself. I know how to do it so, I figured I could do it myself to save me the labor.”
Sadly, the city of Cleveland probably won’t reimburse them for the car problems and repairs. Additionally, car insurance providers usually only pay for damage if the wheels have not been impacted. This is a problem nationwide as roads are in various conditions. Still, drivers should report these issues to their local officials.
