At the Downey Animal Care Center in California, a tiny, three-month-old puppy has not known much love in his short lifetime. His skin is raw and covered with infected, open sores. Visitors walk by his kennel cage and even though their eyes fill with tears at the puppy’s physical condition, no one has yet to offer to help him.
The staff at the shelter have named him Cameron, and he has been waiting for his owner to return since February 7. Considering Cameron’s physical condition and his need for immediate veterinary care for his mange condition and flea infection, it’s doubtful he will be heading home.
And for now, Cameron curls up in his kennel. His ears droop, his eyes are swollen and watery, and surely he must be wondering in his own innocent puppy way, what happened to him and why is he in this very noisy and scary place.
Cameron’s shelter information: My name is CAMERON and I’m approximately 3 months old male pit bull. I have been at the Downey Animal Care Center since February 7, 2025.
