
An immigration protest got out of hand as a police SUV was briefly stolen. It was one of five SUVs damaged.
Some immigration protests across the county are getting pretty wild. In Glendale, Arizona a protester managed to steal and damage a police SUV. The suspect managed to get away during all of the chaos.
Immigration protestor steals police SUV and causes damage
People gathered at an interaction in Glendale, Arizona to protest the Trump administration’s immigration policies. The group became violent and unruly at times, leading to a strong police presence.
According to AZ Family, the police knew about the protest ahead of time and arrived before it started. Officers worked to keep protestors, commuters, and businesses safe. By 7:30 PM, over 1,000 protestors filled the intersection.
Protestors started throwing fireworks and acting defiantly. Then one person jumped on top of a police SUV, climbed inside, and drove off.
It was briefly stolen and abandoned nearby. It was one of many police SUVs, including Ford Explorer and Chevrolet Tahoe inceptors that were damaged.
The SUVs had broken windshields, shattered windows, slashed tires, dented hoods, and damaged body panels. But the suspect of the stolen SUV managed to escape.
During the protest chaos, people threw explosive devices, rocks, chunks of concrete, and glass bottles at the officers. Thismade it difficult to focus on particular individuals.

Bystanders at nearby businesses that weren’t involved in the protest sheltered in place. A few businesses were damaged along with parked vehicles. A container was set on fire behind one of the buildings.
To end the violent protest, police officers deployed various chemical agents to disperse the unlawful gathering. Thiscleared everyone out of the intersection in about 20 minutes.
No arrests have been made, but investigators are trying to identify individuals allegedly involved in the criminal damage cases and officer assaults. Anyone with related information is encouraged to call the police department at 623-930-3000.
