On Monday afternoon, Stray Rescue of St. Louis had answered a desperate plea for help. A young dog had been attacked by another dog and needed emergency medical attention. According to neighbors, the dog had been living outside all of her life.

The one-year-old Shar Pei mix arrived at the shelter weighing 31 pounds; the weight for a Shar Pei averages between 45-60 pounds. She immediately stole the heart of the staff. Her wet kisses, along with wanting to be held and stroked, demonstrated her gratitude to be out of the cold, her injuries being addressed and appreciative of the attention from kind people.

Fortunately, her bite wounds were superficial, however some are infected. She also suffers from an ear infection and entropion (eyelid margin turns inward causing the eyelashes to rub against the eye) which will require surgery. Her gums were also pale.

we’ll get her on fluids right away and antibiotics to fight the infection. she won’t be able to have surgery until we get this infection under control.
Meet Lorena. She’s out of the freezing cold, and her new life begins.
